Mobile data for a Maldives trip
Most travellers arrive on a resort island or a Malé airport transfer with their home SIM roaming at a high rate or switched off. An eSIM is a downloadable data plan you install before you fly, so your phone has data when you land. It only works on phones that support eSIM, and your phone must be unlocked.
Before you buy
- Check that your phone supports eSIM and is not locked to a carrier.
- Check what the plan covers: data amount, validity in days, and whether it lists the Maldives.
- Coverage on a small resort island can differ from Malé; the provider's plan page is the source for what it covers.
- Resort Wi-Fi is common but its quality and cost vary by resort; we only state it where a resort page verifies it.
